Days 51 and 52 - the long trip home

I woke to a drizzly day in Saigon and the question of whether I should cycle to the airport or pack my bike and get a taxi. I much prefer the former.

But, before deciding, I walked the short distance to Laundry No. 1 to pick up some clean clothes so that I was looking my best on the trip home. Locals were getting stuck into recycling.

I then had my last filter coffee while enjoying watching the street, before picking up a couple of banh mi and a vegetarian steamed bun.

I'll miss simple scenes like this.

The weather didn't look too bad and I was very keen for that last ride. Thus, I gambled. I assumed that I could duck for cover if it poured, while a little drizzle wouldn't affect the box. Also, cycling with an overhanging bicycle box is not something that would turn heads in Saigon.

This supports my thesis that an overhanging box is rather lame.

Ian WallisIt's completely random, Bill. I needed an article of celebratory clothing in 2019 and a fellow traveler made me aware of a shop in Dushambe that was selling red ties. I forget their main line of business but it wasn't red ties!

No matter what a journey is like, getting home is always a highlight. A little later my favourite birds visited, all looking a little ragged due to moulting.
