Malgund to Guhagar
Only 34 miles today but they were the ‘hard yards’ that a friend, Andy Oliver, uses to describe flying his flexwing into a strong headwind. Progress happens but it takes time.
Today I was slowed by having to take the ferry at Jaigath which cost Rs50 (50p) for the bike and myself. First ferry of this trip.
I was sticking to small roads along the coast which climbed over headlands before descending to cross rivers. They had nasty steep little 2-300ft PuRi (Push-Ride) climbs and descents. Too steep to ride up in one go and too steep to descend without using the brakes. My average speed on the bike was just over 7mph, it is normally 10mph.
The benefit was seeing small quiet coastal bays and villages.
The last climb before Guhagar took me up a steep unmade track before reaching tarmac. At the top a group of massive concrete structure were being built. Hotel complex? In such a remote place?
