Guhagar to Harnai
At Guhagar I had been at a Homestay and the 3 generation family waved me off,
After 10 miles I crossed a river on the Dabhol car ferry, once those coming ashore had rushed off !
Further up the road I started to see painted cycles on the road. Good to know I was on the right route.
A couple of Belgium cyclists were coming the other way. They had rucksacks strapped to the back of alloy framed hybrids they had bought in Mumbai and planned to sell in Goa. A chain had already broken. It had been put back together at a local workshop but chains do not normally snap and they wanted to replace it. They had been told there was a bike shop at Dhabol and I hope that there was.
Harnai is a thriving fishing port.
Fish were being off loaded. Oxen carts seemed to work better on the sand than lorries, They can wade into the water and pull out again with no problems where I think a lorry would dig itself in. The water is also probably good in stopping the wooden wheels from shrinking.
I made the mistake of leaving the external door of the room open and the light on and gained a buzz of mosquitoes. They were more like horse flys but one by one after flying around the light they fell to the floor and were appropriately dealt with.
Today's ride: 41 miles (66 km)
Total: 801 miles (1,289 km)
