Optional Reading: Equipment Info

There's always no room for improvement

I will be riding my Novara Randonee bicycle and carrying camp gear, clothing, electronics, personal items, food and water. I'll use 2 rear panniers, a small frame bag, and a handlebar bag to carry it all, with the tent strapped to the rear rack.

New stuff for this year includes: a bigger tent, switching from pedals with toe clips to platform pedals, and more water capacity with a 40oz insulated Hydro Flask. My GoPro camera will probably make this trip, I opted not to bring it on past tours and regret not having a video record of events. Overall, a little heavier load than any previous tour but seems justifiable for the longer trip and conditions. There will potentially be some stretches that have limited services. Average August high temps are in the upper 80's in most areas, so extra water capacity is warranted. I recently serviced the bike with a new chain, brake pads and tires. The motor is at almost 56 years but still runs well.

New platform pedals for a big footed rider. They seem to match well with my New Balance Trail-runners

40 oz Hydra Flask on board. Weighs 16 oz empty but will be deployed for this trip where high temps will meet high mountains.
