Flat Country

I had tuna on crispbread, digestive biscuits and tea for breakfast instead of muesli, breaking the strict disciplined ways of the last 10 days as a supermarket would be reached by afternoon. The weather looks hopeful, calm and mild with broken cloud and apart from a couple of hours mundane cycling across flat featureless countryside, this turned out to be one of the most relaxed days. Carefree as I had completed the cycle across Iceland and any difficulties were behind me. I couldn't though help thinking of my poor back wheel . Would it see me through the remaining few days.
I reached the tarmac of the Ring Road around midday and turned left and a bit further reach Hvorsvollur and the welcome sight of a supermarket. In the supermarket, once I have stocked up, I treat myself to a salami sandwich, which I have been dreaming about on the road the last few days. And of coarse there is good Icelandic coffee, free from a thermus along with seating by the checkout area. I have a few top ups and a bar of chocolate.
An hour and a half later I am on the road eastbound through more flat countryside, but this time I could see something interesting ahead. The rocky ridge of Ejyafjoll looking like it's only 5 km away, while in fact it's 20 km; such is the deception of distance upon a flat open landscape. Ejyafjoll marks where I will turn off for Pormork. When I get as far, there is a waterfall shortly after leaving the Ring Road where I stop for an hour and talk with another cyclist.
