After an unplanned, but much needed, recuperation Day 4 in famous Bonnie Doon, it’s now Day 5 and I’ve pedalled onwards and mostly downwards via the wonderful, traffic free with easy gradient Great Victorian Rail Trail to Yea. About 74 km from the Bonnie Doon Hotel to The Peppercorn Hotel in Yea.
A gastro wildcard floored me for the entire day yesterday, and today still I pedalled on a liquid in - liquid out regime. Not pleasant. It reminded me of travels in India & Nepal in the 1980s. Thankfully The Great Victorian Rail Trail has ample toilets strategically located along the route. So today I replaced Hume & Hovell monument spotting for WC spotting. Function over history was the priority.
I had hoped to ride 100km to Tallarook so as I could catch a train and meet Martin. That’ll have to wait until tomorrow. I ran out of energy and daylight today, but Yea is a very pleasant small town to stay over in.
And how good are the VIC Rail Trails for walkers, cyclists and horse trekkers? They’d have saved Hume & Hovell weeks of hard slogging through the bush. 🙂
Foggy start this morning at 8am. Indeed it didn’t lift until after noon in some areas. Finger numbing conditions till about 10am.
