The count down
Things are always getting exciting at this stage. It seems very different not taking our bikes. Our aim is to just take one bag between us, will of course take basic tools, some spare tubes, our front bags and if possible will take our helmets and paniers. All these things we can buy but seems a waste when we have them here.
It is a week of 'last times'. The last time of our sewing group, the last time for church, the last time of our exercise class (and that meant the last time I had to climb the very steep hill from the village to Razorback road), the last time to meet up with my old work mates ............... Each time I think 'This time next week I will be ...' I know however that when we get back half way through October I will be just as excited to be seeing everyone again.

Last evening we went into Auckland for the monthly dinner meeting of The Auckland Medical History Society. It was a bit difficult to sit quietly through the meeting when I felt so excited. A good sleep then this morning all the last minute things before our taxi picks us up to whisk us to the airport. We always feel a bit sad taking Bernie (dog) and Lucy (cat) to the kennels. Lucy enjoys a life of luxury so will find boot camp a bit challenging. Bernie is very devoted to us and animals cant know whether it will be for five minutes or five years. Janice however is really great and knows them both and I am confident she will care for them carefully and with kindness
Next time I talk to you we will have flown away and be having the weekend in Brisbane with Jane and family no doubt going to lots of sporting events and hopefully trying out some of the local cycle trails.
