Epilog: The Shape of Things to Come
Last week, about a month after the completion of our circuit of southern Vancouver Island with Avi and Violet in the WeeHoos, we were back in Seattle and out on the playground with the two kids and their 12" bikes. They call these their "metal bikes", because earlier they had had wooden, pedal free, coaster bikes.
The metal bikes had baffled the kids for a year. You have to pedal, and steer, and balance to make them go! But now came that magic moment, the one probably every adult remembers. Suddenly it was all easy. Now, and for the rest of their lives they will always know how to ride a bike!
Violet was actually the first one to do it, but I got the camera out and captured the moment when for Avi, Mom let go and he was free, on his own! Have a look at the video of Avi, and then of Violet. Finally, there is Grandma, preparing for the time when the kids will follow us on the bike trails, on their own.

Violet Can Do It Too!
