Day 30 Missoula, Montana: Cycling Again - Well sort of.
Today is still a layover day as we wait for Memorial Day to pass and then for Open Road Cycles to build Dodie's wheel. But when I demanded that the family go to Famous Dave's I got to get back on my bike. The Ford Focus is too little for such a gang.
Famous Dave's, though a small chain, is a great BBQ place. It also has pleasant rustic decor and sometimes, good service. Famous Dave's is 8.4 km from Avi and Violet's house, so just a 15 minute ride in this level riverside town.

Missoula is quite a cycling centre, with bike lanes on most major streets and a bike path network by the river. So I headed for the river before turning west towards Dave's, on Reserve St. According to a cycling and recreation map of the town sold by REI, the trail is scheduled in 2011 to go all the way to Reserve St. Unfortunately, it ends 1/2 way. The construction is visibly ongoing for the rest, however.
Reserve Street is really a main drag, and it contains all the major Box Stores. Yet it has a wide shoulder, specifically signposted as bicycles only. This is a good way to go, and it works beautifully in this city.
Dodie has begun the process of resifting through the stuff we mailed here in desperation from Mukilteo, stuff we had stashed here previously, and stuff we bought for some reason at REI yesterday. Hopefully we are ditching more things than we are adding. One thing gone will be my super warm and mostly waterproof Winter cycling gloves. Warmer weather has to be around the corner! Also gone are our third T-shirts - one to wear and one to wash will do.
On the other hand, the auxiliary speaker for the computer could now be in. What good fighting your way across the continent if you play a movie and it sounds tinny!
