Fecamp: The Normandy Coast is very hilly
It was fine and clear when we set off and Le Havre looked so much nicer. It was helped a lot by the fact that we weren't battling along through ugly docks and industrial areas into a head wind. Now we were riding along wide tree lined streets on dedicated cycle trails. At this time on a Sunday morning there were really very few people around. We came to the sea and wished that we could stick by it but that was not to be, we knew we were in for a very long climb up to the level of the airport. It wasn't too bad though even though it went on for an awfully long time. To say that navigation wasn't one of our strong points today is certainly true and we seemed to be having awful difficulty getting off a busy red road.
Most of the time we had little idea where we were going but knew it was in the correct direction because we had a moderately strong head wind and I knew the wind today was coming from the NE the very direction we needed to go. Eventually we were sweeping down a very long down hill and by some miracle arrived in Fecamp
Fecamp has a lovely and interesting harbour that is full of fishing boats and some pleasure boats. It must be great when you have done a long sea voyage to come into a little sheltered harbour like this. Since Le Havre the coast has changed. Now there are high chalk cliffs that look like mirror images of those on the corresponding English coast. Now when you walk down to the plage the golden sand has gone and has been replaced by round stones. The thing that is the same however is that the tides are still enormous
