Off the bikes today. When we planned this tour, today was supposed to offer hiking and or biking in Ordesa National Park, however the weather was going to make that a damp, and probably miserable endeavour.
It was a beautiful morning once again, but the forecast called for rain starting around noon and continuing on and off for the rest of the day. If there’s an upside to this, it’s that the forecasts from meteoblue.com are proving to be quite accurate.
So, no hiking or biking, instead a true rest day (not that we really needed it) and a full on logistics day, which we did need.
We sent our safety net packing yesterday and we realized that we still have 25 days in front of us with only a few night of accommodation booked. We’re also heading into mid June, and heading towards the Mediterranean coast. Both of these factors likely mean that booking accommodations last minute is going to become more difficult, so we bit the bullet and filled out our accommodation itinerary for the rest of the trip. With what we have left it will be easier to modify existing bookings than to scramble to find a place.
That pretty much sums up today, aside from a wander around the very pretty village of Torla in the morning. We had a simple dinner of salad, pizza and beer and are ready to continue pedalling into the Pyrenees tomorrow.

As you scroll through todays pics it will all become clear.
We were woken up at 6 am by this flock of sheep, and yes every damned one had a bell, going down the main road in front of our hotel. What gives with the livestock drives down the Main Street in this place???
I’ve always had the mental image of Spain being hot, brown and somewhat dusty. I’ve only been to Madrid, Barcelona and Alicante before though. The north and far east of this country is impossibly green and lush!
Looking north into Ordesa park. Lot’s of climbing, hiking and mountain biking happening here, but not for us this time. The weather was moving in from the south east.
The hotel we’re staying at (Hotel Abetos - can’t help translating this to Asbestos Quebec in my mind) is actually a pretty nice place to while away a rainy afternoon
