Vernon to Herkimer
Bikes along the Mohawk
What a nice biking day, especially after the heat and rain, and in the final week, when I want to savor every mile. We are still following the Erie Canal, and now the Mohawk River. I’ve ridden this segment twice before, and each time it’s been improved. With the development of the Empire State Trail system, which utilizes the Erie Canal Trail, New York State has been putting a lot of money and effort into its biking infrastructure.

We started again this morning riding some lovely country roads.
The usual scenes along the trail. Fortunately, there haven’t been many trees across the trail since the first couple of weeks.
Look closely at the boat. It’s bikes on the Mohawk as well as bikes along the Mohawk.
Elliot, Todd, and Stan waiting to unload bags once Jill has us all checked in to the hotel, which today featured a welcome outdoor pool.
Today's ride: 54 miles (87 km)
Total: 1,254 miles (2,018 km)
