Port Stanley to Port Rowan,Ontario
Purple martins and water
I love being near water, so today’s ride was pretty nearly perfect—lots of water views, sunshine, and generally favorable winds. On one stretch of road, we could see Lake Erie, and wild roses were wafting their fragrance as we rode for about half a mile.

By about mile 20, I’m always ready for a break. We found benches along a boating channel in Port Burwell, much better than standing by the side of the road as we frequently do.
Purple martins, a cousin of swallow, like their birdhouses, and we saw lots of both the birds and birdhouses. Thanks to a great app called Merlin, I can now recognize their varied songs.
These scenes were on a very large mural in Port Rowan, the town nearest our destination. We stayed at an Airbnb about six miles down a long, narrow spit of land surrounded by wetlands that extends into Lake Erie.
This we looking out my bedroom window. That’s another purple martin house.
More scenes from around the Airbnb, which we agreed was among the most scenic places we have ever stayed. It reminds me of the waterways around Chincoteague.
Pretty much a perfect day.
Today's ride: 54 miles (87 km)
Total: 788 miles (1,268 km)
