Muskegon to Comstock Park
Rolling through a flat landscape
We rode almost completely on trails today to Comstock Park, a suburb of Grand Rapids. Rail trails generally have not much more than 2 to 3 percent inclines, but coming through southwest Minnesota and Wisconsin, we looked out hills and valleys. Not so today. Although we had a few ups and downs at the end of the ride, we were riding in a very flat landscape.

We stopped to chat a bit with this couple on their recumbent trikes. There weren’t many bends in trail, which was paved and in generally great condition.
There’s only trees between us and the horizon.
A creative bike rack, the first I’ve seen quite this elaborate.
I’m pretty sure there’s a photo of this cheery caboose on a blog from my 2013 bike trip.

I don’t know what this weed is, but it nicely dressed up a transmission tower.
We didn’t see many wild flowers along the trail, but we did find a stretch of fragrant multiflora roses.
Rao, with whom I have done three previous rides, drove down from East Lansing to have dinner with us. When you ride across country with someone, you feel a bit like family. It was great to see him.
Cindy shared this photo of her, Hope and me taken yesterday as the ferry was coming in to Muskegon.
Today's ride: 43 miles (69 km)
Total: 420 miles (676 km)
