Lockport to Brockport
Looking for Sal
Today’s ride was almost completely on the Erie Canal trail. I’ve ridden it a couple of times before, and I always enjoy it. The trail, which is packed limestone, was a bit slick and sloppy at the beginning, but it improved as we rode, and the heat wasn’t as oppressive as it had been the previous days.

It is a very peaceful ride, with nice scenery, great reflections, occasional boats, but no locks on this stretch.
We passed a few small towns, mostly on the south side of the canal. The original canal opened in 1825, so this community was established very quickly after that.
I took these two photos from the same spot, first looking south across the canal, and then turning 180 degrees to look north. The bridge in the distance in the top photo is crossing a river which flows under the canal, which you then see in the second photo.
A few miles further down the trail we came to the Medina Culvert, the only place where a road goes under the Erie Canal.
Today's ride: 47 miles (76 km)
Total: 1,069 miles (1,720 km)
