Herkimer to Amsterdam
A royal ending
We lucked into another lovely day, not too hot, a tail wind, trails along water much of the way, and a great ice cream stop. We were mainly on trails, so for the most part looking at hills we weren’t riding.

We passed the Fort Herkimer church, which dates back to the Revolutionary War. It had guns in the steeple during the war.
No, this isn’t a green path, it’s a waterway.
We climbed enough of a hill to the lunch spot to get this view, with the Adirondacks in the far distance.
We are staying in a castle tonight, complete with knights in shining armor and a Great Hall. The castle dates to 1897, when it was constructed as a National Guard Armory. It was converted to a hotel and events facility twenty years ago, and it gets the prize as the most unusual place we have stayed on the trip.
There’s nothing like a well-placed ice cream stand to make for a great day.
Today's ride: 51 miles (82 km)
Total: 1,305 miles (2,100 km)
