Lazy Hazy Sunday

Daylesford to Castlemaine

We walked into town for dinner last night at the Daylesford Hotel. The town was pumping, being a Saturday night and the Daylesford Bulldogs had just finished playing at home. I’m guessing they had a win as they were all at the pub in mighty high spirits. We all ordered fish and chips except Pete who ordered the slow cooked chicken Parma that came out a good half hour after we’d demolished our meals.

We were up early and ensconced in a trendy Daylesford cafe by 9am. But not before we had completed our 30 minute Pilates routine. It would be remiss of me not to mention the blogs chief sponsor, ‘The Well-Being Pilates Studio’. Despite me having plugged this establishment for the last 5 years my annual stipend is yet to arrive.

Daylesford is a really neat town within striking distance of Melbourne so quite touristy and priced accordingly.

A rapidly convened committee meeting quickly resolved John’s flat tyre.

It was a pretty easy ride today, so second coffee was a gentle five kilometre roll down the hill to Hepburn Springs. After faffing around for a good fifteen minutes deciding which of the three cafes to go to we settled on the Virgin cafe as the other two were closed.

It was quiet country roads for the mornings ride through farmland and forest before hitting the Midlands highway and a short trek into Guildford for first lunch. It’s warm again today with a steady headwind that’s rapidly depleting my enthusiasm. After Guildford it was more highway riding before turning off onto a bike trail that led us into Castlemaine.

Ride a bit boring John?

It was a hot dusty ride on a lazy hazy Sunday. Steve is heading back to Ballarat to join his family for a holiday so we bade him a fond adieu (and reminded him of how much money he owes us). Tonight we’re staying at Di’s place. Di expertly guided us through the impressive Castlemaine Botanical gardens to the base of a 25% mountain before thankfully turning off and leading us to her mud brick house.

Thankfully we turned left.

Di’s husband Mike has prepared second lunch for us and it is absolutely restaurant quality. After showering we wander into Castlemaine for a lazy beer at the Love Shack brewery.

Targeted sponsorship at the bowls club.

Craig was really pissed off and vengeful when his wife ran off with his accountant.

Great beer but I seem to have developed a divergent squint after only two beers.
