Because Lockhart is said to be the barbecue capital of TX, I had lunch at Smitty's Market, which has won a number of awards. (The wait was too long for me to get into Black's BBQ on the other side of the courthouse square.) Two slices of brisket and 2 slices of white bread, plus a side of baked beans and a side of macaroni and cheese, all for about $8. Here's a photo of the wood-fired barbecue and sales-by-the-pound operation, which is separate from the dining room with shared-table seating, drinks, side dishes, and ice cream.
