During our layover day at the RV park near Milton FL, I spent several hours at the local library, which offered good wi-fi service and a quiet workplace. I also biked on part of the Blackwater Heritage State Trail, which leads north to the Naval Air Station Whiting Field, one of the Navy's two primary pilot training bases. 

Whiting Field is named for Kenneth Whiting, a pioneer of naval aviation. After he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1908, he commanded several submarines but in 1914 switched to aviation and learned to fly under Orville Wright. He later commanded the Navy's first and third aircraft carriers (USS Langley and USS Saratoga) before he retired in 1940.
