Dauphin Island AL
We're staying 2 nights (i.e., with a layover day) in condominiums on Dauphin Island AL, right on the beach (with access to the beach on a boardwalk over sand dunes). Quite a treat for bikers used to tent camping!
Best of all, my wife Rozan flew from WI to Mobile AL, rented a car, and drove to Dauphin Island to spend the layover day with me.
The island was named for the dauphin, the title of the heir-apparent to the French throne (but also the French word for dolphin).
