Brackettville TX
Tonight we're camping at an RV park in Fort Clark Springs, near Brackettville TX. About 11 of our riders were so worn out from yesterday's ride that they took a sag vehicle to the bridge over the Amistad reservoir and just biked the remaining 47 miles.
Pictured below is the stone house built in 1852 for the commanding officer of Fort Clark. The fort's purpose was to guard the U.S. border, protect the military road to El Paso, and defend against Indian attacks. From 1873 to 1881, the fort was staffed in part by "Black Seminole Scouts" who originally came from Florida. Their history is interesting; I have too little space in this journal to describe them.
