Day off in Crest
La Tour then afternoon by the pool
Well, that about sums it up. We walked into town for breakfast, climbed through the medaieval streets to the "donjon" that dominates above the town, and paid our admission.

This tower is all that remains of what must have been a sizeable castle. Most of the citadel was dismantled by order of Louis XIII in the 1600s; the town had become a royal property after the last count died without an heir. The keep or donjon was preserved for use as a prison (and also because it would have been too expensive to test down. The remaining structure is very large, the tallest such tower in France, and I found it interesting.

By now, the temperature was creeping up, so we returned to the campsite to nap and laze about by the pool.
