Khorog to Langar, (1 - 2/X); 24 - 25th June

We left Khorog on the 24th June, heading south, the road penned in by the dramatic valley, again the topology being very dry, apart from where there was opportunity to irrigate the land through snowmelt, where there was lots of vegetation and farmland.

Guillaume was also heading to Garam Chasma hot spring and so we suggested we try and camp together if our schedules align. About 2km after the turn off to head up to the spring, he came down on his motorbike. He suggested he give us a lift, one by one riding pillion to save our effort of the climb. It was a kind offer but the gradient wasn't too difficult so we declined. We got to the spot marked on iOverlander, and there were two large overlander trucks, one having driven from Belgium and the other France, both heading towards Australia.

We got up early to go to the hot spring. You bath naked, with entrance alternating throughout the day between men and women. The water coming directly out the ground cascading down into the pool was very hot -- it was possible to wade under it very quickly, but more than a few seconds and I imagine you could get scalded. I think the rest of the pool is mixed with water coming from the river, which is snowmelt.

the water splashing down in the centre of the image was the hot spring water. I think the surrounding rock formation is made up of solidified minerals from the spring water

We had a delicious chicken shish outside the hot spring and said goodbye to Guillaume, and continued on our way to Ishkashim.
