In Khiva; 22/05

Took a walking tour of Khiva. It’s extremely busy with tourists, and the old town part of Khiva, within the city walls, essentially now exclusively caters to tourists — there is nothing else going on. With costumed processions of historical shah’s and his entourage and singing performances of traditionally dressed women, it does seem a little over the top and almost contrived. Beineu was more interesting.
