Bjelovar; 1st November
1st November
As we were getting ready to leave, Slobodan asked us if we would like to stay another night, for free. It was very foggy, and him and Blaja were worried about us cycling on the roads.

MayLyn and I discussed and decided to take their offer. Their home is supremely homely and very comfortable so really it was an easy choice.
Slobodan and Blaja cooked a lunch of potatoe casserole with bacon, onion and rice. Very delicious.
After lunch they gave us a short tour of the town including a coffee stop. Slobodan explained Bjelovar used to be a garrison town, on the frontier with the Ottoman Empire, hence why the town square building looked quite militaristic.
Back at home, MayLyn cooked a dinner of chilli, and I made a Victoria sponge cake. The flour in the kitchen had a 9% protein content, and the crust came out pleasantly crunchy.
Before going to bed, Blaja suggested we look at the cemetery as people would have left candles there, being Halloween. Indeed, looking out from the 1st floor window overlooking the cemetery, the candles did give it a supernatural vibe.
