Nakhon Sawan - Chainat

WHAT-A-GLORIOUS-DAY! After the last two days with predominantly highway-feeling I was keen to find some route down to Chainat that was not only new to me but possibly even enjoyable cycling. And did I get positively surprised! I would give those 85 kilometers 9 out of 10 if that section south of Uthai Thani along the #3183 wasn´t the 10 kilometers of straight boring line that it is. 10 out of 10 by the way only exists in my sweetest dreams and would be a combination of Mekong, Mae Hong Son Loop and Gulf of Thailand.

Today was very close to my ideal day out on the bike though. Just and only pleasant experiences. If you will do the same ride at some stage just make sure you always stay on the western bank of the Chao Phraya until coming down to the #1021 where you cross over to Wat Thammamum Worawiharn from where you should continue on the eastern bank. Enough words....let the photos speak!

Chainat is a worthy finish to the day too. Nice town with a well developped river promenade and plenty of good food opportunities. My hotel (Numchai, but all the signs are in Thai script) is one of the old traditional inner city establishments opposite the Chainat Bus Terminal. Inexpensive, old but clean.

Even the first 22 km along the more busy #3005 and 1111 were delightful in that peaceful morning atmosphere. Mind you I took several sidekicks to ride along the promenades even they were not continuous. Time consuming but well worth the effort. How to find them? Any temple on your left will open up towards the river and usually have a local track on that side

Some of the baby rice plants out there to become adult. I have never sen any machines doing this job of planting the seedlings. It must be immense torture to the back of the women doing it

New temple in the making along the #1021. Should be very impressive once it is finished and they are building the whole infrastructure (restaurants etc.) with it, right on the riverbank

Wat Thammamum Worawiharn. I don´t know whether you want to climb the 565 stairs in the heat but I know you should stay on the #4005 along the eastern riverbank when leaving the compound and not continue on the #1021 towards the #1

When you get into any Thai town in the late afternoon get ready for some school-pickup anarchy
