Mantua

After yesterday's ordeal, we are happy to leave our bikes locked up today. I am a little disappointed this morning when I see it is market day and stands, mostly selling cheap garments, take up most of the space on the Piazza delle Erbe and spill out into the side streets. We came through Mantua eleven years ago on a bike tour and on a languid evening experienced a totally different atmosphere. However, I do take advantage of the clothes market to buy a back up for the t-shirt that I spilled salad dressing on last night.

Here are some impressions from our morning stroll.

As in Padua and Ferrara, Mantua is teeming with bicycles

A bicycle is convenient for shopping in cities where cars aren't allowed into the historic centers.

I took the same picture eleven years ago and noticed that each angel is missing one foot. They still are missing.
