Strasbourg to Beaune: Start of Burgundy tour
I was still not fully recovered from my food poisoning and I did not sleep well so I woke up early and wandered Strasbourg for one last look before we left for Beaune. Mostly the only ones on the streets we me, the drunks from the night before and the clean up crews. I had a lovely walk on an sunny Sunday morning and managed to capture a few more photos. About 9:30 we set off for Beaune stopping in Belfort along the way for coffee. We took the time to wander around and in the old fort that overlooks the old town. The most impressive structure was the massive lion (the symbol for the city) that is carved in the rock upon which the fort is built. It was carved by the same artist who built the Statue of Liberty. After our walk we headed straight to Beaune to service our bikes and receive the information for our next tour. Later we went to an amazing restaurant located in the former wine cave of an abbey which is now a hotel. Dinner was superb. I was so hungry having skipped lunch I only got a photo of dessert. Throughout the evening we followed a friend competing in a half Ironman back in Victoria BC via the internet, modern technology never cease to amaze me. The wifi is weak so it may be a few days before the photos are loaded.
