Wildcamp: The Quarrymen - beetling along to the Tortel intersection

We set off at eight thirty this morning - the earliest we have got away yet. Everyone else was up and getting ready to go as well. We had enjoyed another natter with Paul while we had our coffee and then had to call on him for help when I had a problem communicating with the lady of the house after my limited Spanish and the use of Google Translate failed. I had thought it had to do with how pan she thought I needed but it turned out she was unable to calculate how much change to give me. It seems that she was both illiterate and innumerate. Not something I was expecting at all.
Today's ride was so much easier and better than yesterday's. Both of us felt a lot better (only one small glass of wine each) and the road was also a lot easier. We had the usual mix of smooth and rough with quite a lot of bad corrugations but there were also enough smooth sections that we could enjoy. My original idea was that we would camp near the turnoff to Caleta Tortel but instead stopped at a disused gravel quarry about four kilometers short of that. About ten kilometers before we reached the quarry Leigh noticed that her bicycle's rear tyre was slowly going flat. I pumped it up twice before we got to the quarry where replacing it was my first chore. The culprit was a tiny piece of very thin wire. I guess that we should be grateful that this was the first puncture of the trip after more than a thousand kilometers on some pretty rough roads. The quarry lies beneath a lovely waterfall so there is a good source of clean water about two hundred meters away. We had the place to ourselves and were able to have a good all over wash (including my hair) and take our time in getting supper ready. All in all, this is one of the better places we have camped at.
