8. Tour de Lopez Island: Island Utopia
Lopez Island was flatter (except for the hill up out of the ferry harbor) and had lots of bucolic rural views. A lot of the beachfronts were privately owned, but locals were friendly. One woman offered to let us sit on her lawn to eat our lunches. The street names also reflected the social outlook of the residents, with names like “Namaste Lane” or “Thelongandwindingroad.” In governing, residents try and reach consensus on local issues that affect them.
Being the end of the school year, we encountered several groups of young teens with adult guides out riding. Big congrats for both being in the beautiful open air and getting good exercise. Possibly future CGOAB bloggers were in there somewhere.
We ate at the Buckey Lopez Island Grill but wonder if something better is available.
Today's ride: 39 miles (63 km)
Total: 219 miles (352 km)
