Had a good break at Ceduna and we both probably over ate while there - that Foodland had some magnificent markdowns. Although we didn't over eat to the point where we were so full that it hurt - it was more "I'm gonna have both as I don't have to budget my food like I have been doing for the past 2 weeks while crossing the Nullabor"!!! Back to eating fresh fruit and we picked up some strawberries as they were going for $2.49 for 500g - they were from Elimbah in Qld.
At night we walked down to the pier to watch the sun set ....
Gosh we have been having some warm weather since entering SA. We had beautiful days while at Ceduna - both 2 rest had very strong northerly winds. We spent on morning taking the 5km bike path to Pinkys Point to look at the Thevenard Port.
On our first day out of Ceduna on Wednesday we woke to very thick fog, the tent fly was soaking wet. We packed up and left but about 500m up the road it just became too thick so we pulled over under some scrub bush and waited. The fog lifted a bit and looked like clearing and we could see 100m in front of us. So we started off again. Got about 1km on the edge of town and the fog just rolled in even thicker so we pulled over at some weigh station that was closed and waited there under the shelter for about 1 hour. So it was a very late start at 9.15am and this is when the fog finally lifted and stayed lifted!
Not alot happened on our way to Wurilla. It is very monotonous along here and probably the same outlook for us all the way to Port Augusta! We can't quite see the fields fully as they are behind scrubby trees. But plenty of spots to bushcamp along here.
The road is rolling with alot of crests and corners. The shoulder is wide but shite to ride in. It is more bumpy than a gravel road. Because of the late start we didn't get to Wurilla until 4.15pm. Set up the tent, had a shower and then it was dinner time. It did rain just a little bit last night but nothing drastic.
On the road again this morning at 7.10am. Got up early as we knew we had a long day ahead. We were forecasted to get favourable winds but they did not eventuate as much as we like. Mainly a northerly for most of the 120km,which for us today is a cross the shoulder tail wind.
The road is much like yesterday but some parts are really undulating and by 80km I was knackered - not from the undulations but because of the crests and traffic passing us near the top that we constantly had to resort to getting into the shoulder and riding in it - it is rough and slowed us down alot that once back out on the road alot of energy was used to getus going again and those damn rumble strips really are annoying and here in SA they are twice as high as any other state - they just rattle the shit out of you!
After 80km we probably had 20km of predominantly gentle down hill - it was lovely, we must have been climbing alot over the past 2 days. Even the final 20km into Wudinna was relatively flat and easier going for the weary legs.
Relieved to get to Wudinna at just after 3pm. Got a cooked chicken from the Foodland and Neil surprised me with a Black & Gold Chocolate Bavarian - my favourite! The campground is at the showgrounds. We went up behind some water tanks to get out of the wind.
But on the other side we can see that we will have very quiet neighbours!
Yip that is a cemetary! Right now it is raining - alot of thunder and lightening but not alot of rain and now the wind that we were suppose to have today is blowing -typical!
Tomorrow is another big day 100km to Kimba.
Today's ride: 215 km (134 miles)
Total: 6,751 km (4,192 miles)
