Apparently it was a wild windy night last night - I did hear a little bit of rattling and could hear strong winds but I was so tired that I just slept through it all. Neil said it was so strong that the wind was lifting his pillow as we have our heads and vestibule facing into the wind. I did find my glasses on the tent floor so the wind must have lifted that part of the tent to knock my glasses out of the pocket that I store them in!
This morning it was still blowing and warmish around 11 degrees. The wind has swung around to a full westerly and is strong for most of the day. There was a temporary reprieve when we started off at 7am.
We have about 100km to ride and off that at least half will be going southwards so this westerly will be a severe cross wind for us with the other half going east where it will be a full tail wind!
We get to Woomelang and at the free camping spot there is a water fountain - we found that all taps in Lascelles had no drinking signs on them so we needed to fill up most of our bottles. Annoyed that there was no drinking water at Lascelles and hopefully I can remember that for next time and not bother to stay there!
We are on the Sunraysia highway from Lascelles to about 12km past Woomelang and we saw at Woomelang they had the covers off the grain piles so that means they are moving grain by trucks and yip sure enough they were all on the Sunraysia highway.
We turn off 12km after Woomelang on to a very quiet single lane road going east.
The canola fields look good around here

Heading east we have a tail wind and it is pushing us along. About 30km before Birchip the road heads southwards and the westerly is now a cross wind and blowing at above 30km per hour and with those wind speeds we find the cross winds become more of a headwind - it took us 2 hours to get to Birchip from our morning tea spot and we were happy to get there - why? because we always get something from the bakery when we pass through Birchip - sort of a tradition we have set!
mmmmm it was lovely my bee sting, I loved the custard filling!
From Birchip we go east again with a 6km stint going south about half way along. The legs really feel it when we do the 6km with a cross wind.
The road is a c road and boy is it rough on our side of the road. However it is easy going with this tailwind to Wycheproof and we get here just on 2pm. It is a nice caravan park owned by the council and has a new toilet/shower block. The camp kitchen has been added to and is now big. I think this is a well used park during grain season!
Tomorrow is Pyramid Hill.
Today's ride: 102 km (63 miles)
Total: 7,902 km (4,907 miles)
