Warm evening last night and this morning it was 13 degrees when we got up. Todays high here in Karoonda was about 23 degrees with a cool change this afternoon.
On the road at 7am and rode 15km to Walker Flat where we met the Murray river.
And also caught the ferry here.

It is great catching these free ferries across the Murray river and we have, over the years, probably been on all of them bar 1 or 2. But the problem with most of them is there is always a down hill to them then an uphill on the other side. Todays one at Walker Flat was no exception and it does provide excellent views of the river itself and the escarpments
From the ferry crossing it is on a few kilometers to the road that runs north and south on this side (east) of the Murray. We have ridden this road before but today we only go as far as Bowhill before we turn off to Karoonda.
Like alot of farms on both sides of the Murray there are heaps of fields with old stone buildings and today this was one close to the road and looked like it had a newish roof but one of the side walls was completely missing!

It is lovely riding along here and it is rolling and the poor legs are screaming out when they have to go up a hill but it is not like yesterday where they were munters - today there was more down than up and the wind helped us alot today!
Now yesterday you may remember I mentioned there are lots of blue tongue lizards out and about. Well today I nearly ran over one! It was on the road in the shadow of a tree and I didn't see it until the last second when it was about 30cm to the right of my front wheel! I would be devasted if I ran one of these over.
You may also remember from yesterdays blog that I mentioned that the "other" reptiles will also be out and about - well what did we see slithering across the road today!
It was moving quickly and this is the only photo I got of it before it disappeared in the long grass. Couldn't get close enough to see any markings or patterns to help with the type of snake only that it probably is venomous!
A quick lunch stop on the side of the road and a little bit of mucking around with the camera.

We get to Karoonda - we are tired and when we arrive at the caravan park we get to our site just in time before someone just helps themselves to it. Last night Neil booked our site for 2 nights as it said there is only 1 available. We are on a drive thru site #9. We find out that most of the caravans are not in the spot they are supposed to be and since there is no caretaker here they apparently will get sorted out tomorrow. So not sure what is going on but most are here for work on the road. LOL they are going to check the vehicle regos at each site and get to us and see that our car is not there as to make the booking the vehicle registration was a mandatory field so we put our car registation number down so we could complete the booking!
It is a nice camp ground with a great kitchen that we are using at the moment - not sure if many will use it. The only problem is that there is no stove!
It is very cheap to stay here - $20 per night for powered site and a weekly rate of $100 which is unbelievably cheap!
They have silo art here and also with a light show so hopefully the wind will die down and we can go see it tonight after dinner when it is dark.
Looking forward to our rest day tomorrow. Only 9 more cycle days to get home to Bendigo. Not sure if we will have a go at it in one hit without a rest day or take a rest day somewhere along the way!
Today's ride: 75 km (47 miles)
Total: 7,495 km (4,654 miles)
