We got up early this morning as we always seemed to be running out of time at the end of the day. 5am the alarm was set and we allowed ourselves a little bit of time to actually get out of the sleeping bags with alot of moaning and groaning on my end! But it wasn't a cold night and at 5.30am it was 5 degrees, so no frost or anything like that.
Since it is light at 6am our packing up was faster than normal and we were on the road just on 7am. No wind for the first 20km. No traffic going east with us but heaps of trucks going west (Perth direction). Yesterday the trucks were all going east with us towards Melbourne and today they are going west!
The sun was out but also there was alot of cloud about too. After a short break at 20km we had a headwind all the way to Mundrabilla RH. It was coming from a south east direction at first and light but as the day wore on it blew stronger from a south east direction. Since that wind was coming from our right and there were a lot of trucks going west their wash or turbulence really affected our speed as the winds push it onto our side of the road and it is like hitting a brick wall constantly!
But we maintained a constant speed and braced ourselves whenever an oncoming truck passed us. The day became really grey and cold and at our 60km mark it was really cold so we hid behind shrubs out of the wind. Only 10 more kilometers to Mundrabilla and we were both looking forward to a shower and doing a little bit of handwashing.
About 3km before the roadhouse there is a rest area about 500m of the highway and it has water tanks
so we went in to investigate and one tank has no tap and is in need of repair. The other is marginally better and Neil could see it was about 750mm deep. He ran the water and it was ok, but we would have to boil it all so I decided to do a little bit of handwashing with that water as we didn't know what it would be like at the roadhouse. So a pair of knicks each, hankies and socks were washed.
We got to the roadhouse and checked in and the first thing we did was look at the showers as we thought they might be timed - but no they were large, clean and wonderful! Our spot is a fenced off area away from the dust bowl powered sites
We set up tent and I must have had the longest shower I have every had and I made it hot! The hair took 2 attempts to get clean!
Then an early dinner (just after 3pm!) and we went for a proper meal each

My chops were delicious with lots of fat on it, did I use the knife and fork? just call me feral but no! - actually the knife was a butter knife and wouldn't cut my chop so I had to pick it up by the bone and gnaw at it just like Kouta would have! Neils Parmie was nice and filling too.
The meals filled us up but we are ready for a cuppa and I would kill for a large piece of cake at the moment - which we don't have so I will have to settle for nuttela on crackers!
Tomorrow is our last day in WA and we will cross the border into South Australia. Which means we have to put our clocks forward 1 hour and 30 minutes. We have been in WA for around 3 months! We are also just over half way through the Nullabor.
Today's ride: 73 km (45 miles)
Total: 5,965 km (3,704 miles)
