Meursault: Riding in the vines

A dry day. Please don't confuse that with blue skies and sunshine, but it didn't rain today, and that was a good thing. We slept in and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast. We started out as a group on the Voie de Vins. Keith and I had ridden to Nolan four years ago, and it remains one of our favourite rides, but when we got to Santenay we decided to go rogue and cycle some uncharted territory, leaving the rest of the peloton to head towards St. Leger Sur Dheune.

Breakfast. Lots of carbs 😜

We were surprised to be immediately out of the vineyards and into canal side riding. It was a great trail, flat and beautiful. We were particularly impressed with one barge that passed below a bridge as we went over the top. It even had a swimming pool.

Wow.

A beautiful picture.

We think this is a bike and barge boat.

Look what was on the bow. Wouldn't that be fun after a good bike ride? It was surprisingly large and deep.

Then we did some D road exploring. Lots of hills, which were such a pleasure on an unloaded bike. Back to reality tomorrow! We did go up and up at one point...we were so convinced we were going to have a slick cruise back when we got to the top. Instead we came to a dead end...or single track anyway. We had to reverse our course and go back down the way we came up. It really was worth it for the views. I think.

We stopped briefly at this bridge and look who cruised by.

Rod and Joy, the hostess with the mostess. She put us all together in an amazing spot. They are standing in the kitchen of the French farmhouse we stayed in.
