Alcantara, Spain
We palnned a 8:00 start but it was raining hard then. Finally got going at maybe 9. It was up to the old fortress on the top of the hill. Then a look around and it was 10:30 and we were just starting was supposed to be the day's route if we had stayed at the top as scheduled.
It was down the hill and eventually back up and one person pedaled so hard that the chain on the bike broke. This was another delay. Then some ups and downs and in a greener valley than most of what we have been seeing. It was still dry, but not everything was brown. There was a stop for fruit and then on to lunch at 3 PM again. Everyone was quite hungry by then.

Then there was a long climb to an area that was astonishingly desert like. Very arid. But at a pond there were some Collared Pratincoles and later by the river near our final destination, I saw a Kingfisher, Heron and some Stilts.
With our group of 18, dinner always takes over two hours and we don't finish until 9:30 or later. It is crazy.
