Ten miles until breakfast! Nothing in Westport opened until 9 am so we opted for coffee and a banana in the room. Dockside Cafe was listed as the best place in Fort Henry. Pumpkin pancakes and bacon hit the spot and got us to Ticonderoga. Folks at the cafe warned us about the narrow shoulder and trucks on this road. This was by far the most dangerous part of our bike trip.
Another steamy day so we stopped a large gas station/store/ cafe just outside of Ticonderoga. The road from Ticonderoga to Whitehall was beautiful with a wide shoulder. The hills were not that steep nor long, but the heat made it more challenging. Do visit Fort Ticonderoga if you get the chance.
Diane, a retired journalist, was our host at her 1858 Airbnb home in Whitehall. I would highly recommend staying at her place which included a wonderful breakfast. Dinner at the Whitehall Marina on the canal a mile from our Abnb was just what we needed. The owner, Lynn, chatted with us about the stopping places along the cana. The spaghetti and meatball dish was large and delicious easily shared by 2 hungry cyclists. We had a wonderful discussion about American and European politics in the morning before leaving.
Today's ride: 90 km (56 miles)
Total: 320 km (199 miles)
