Plattsburgh to Westport

The Empire State Trail is clearly marked on the road. The only bike path we found today was along the lake for about 2 miles heading out of Plattsburgh. We met many walkers on this trail from the retirement residence located on the trail. It looked like an old motel had been converted into these residences.

Stopping at Ausable Chasm gave us a chance to take photos of the interesting rock formations.  Typically we would carry a lunch with us and stop along the way for a picnic.  The hot weather took us again to Stewart's to cool off and rest inside at one of their convenient tables.

While Leo was waiting for me in Willsboro, Mary from Nellie's Bakery offered him water and a table inside her bakery where she happened to be making muffins. Do stop there for her baked goods! Another kind fellow stopped to let us know that the visitor centre has restrooms.  He advised us to take Middle Road to avoid heavy traffic. With our GPS we took back roads (some of them were gravel) to get to the town of Westport where we stayed a Lakeside Motel.  Dinner was a 20 minute walk into town.  Finding hotels was a bit of an issue in this part of NY State which caused us to cycle more kilometers each day than we preferred giving us less time to sightsee.
