Day 18: Sabbath Day 3
This is an unscheduled rest day because a big storm system is passing through. There are currently heavy rains and winds and a tornado watch. Here is the current radar map:
I was on breakfast this morning and we had it at 7:00 so we could do laundry. The laundromat in this town is pretty decrepit so we drove about 15 minutes to the next town. I had 3 pairs of clean shorts left and one of the premium ones I decided I should do laundry. We will stay at an RV resort in a few days, but who knows. We now have 9 days in a row of riding (something like 514 miles) before our next rest day in Austin.
AH and BD did a great day of planning for this. The definitely earned their pay.
I spent some time going through previous rides and recording the average speed, WindSock Wind Impact, etc. I'm not sure why except that I like to see numbers.
I had a fair night sleep last night. It was a bit warmer inside than it was outside, and I think I got a little dehydrated. So, I woke up with a headache that turned into a migraine. JF and JW are cooking tonight and are making a fancy beef stew. It looks good except that there are lots of green peppers in it. Not my favorite.
I think I am coming down with the cold that has been going around. My cough is getting a bit worse and I have a bit of a runny nose. I am sucking on a zinc lozenge, though not sure it will do any good at this point
Tomorrow we have a 58 mile ride and it looks to be into a stiff headwind. That doesn't sound very pleasant. The highs will be in the mid sixties. There are thunderstorms on the calendar again for this coming Saturday. I hope it isn't a bad system like this one.
There is a family doing the ST that is hunkering down tonight at the church. There are 2 teenage kids who aren't riding, a grandparent who is driving a truck puling a large travel trailer, and 2 adults riding here from Baton Rouge. They were supposed to get here around 2, when the storm is at its worst.
BD had a flat yesterday, his 3rd of the trip. He has 23 mm tires with tubes and inflates to 110 psi.
I think I will wait a few more days before changing my chain since there is more wet weather forecast.
I am planning on taking a nap, partly because of the cold. I have been taking melatonin pretty regularly to help sleep. I usually take them when I wake up in the middle of the night to help me get back to sleep. Especially with this cold it would be nice to get some good sleep.
