I wanted to leave early because we had 80 miles to ride. I woke up at 5:45 and had everything ready except putting away my tent by breakfast. I ate 2 oatmeal packets, a hard boiled egg and some yogurt. I packed trail mix, a PBJ sandwich, and 3 slices of cheese. I left camp alone at 8:00.

The route was over rural roads until we go to Biloxi. We crossed the Rout 90 bridge. It was well traveled but the shoulder was wide. I had arranged to meet Kim’s parents. They met me at the Lighthouse Park and we had a short talk. The route through Biloxi was in a boardwalk. It was concrete and the expansion joints were painful and slowed one down. Some others rode on the road, but it was busy. There was also an increasing headwind.

After Gulf shores, we rode on smaller roads that were quite nice. We crossed over the St Louis Bay and then went away from the coast. I stopped at mile 24 to have a quick snack. At mile 40 I stopped at a convenience store and got a liter of water and some white chocolate Reese’s. I ate my sandwich. At Mike 50 I sat at a convenience store and ate the Reese’s and drank some water. At mile 60 I sat down on the side of the road and ate a cliff bar. At mile 70 I had a Goo.  I felt hungry early even after a big breakfast. I frankly do not think dinner last night was enough calories. I think I did a good job of hydrating.

This was my slowest average speed yet. I think it was a combination of length, headwind, and being tired from the hammer fest yesterday with Stan.

One of the interesting things about the route is that we crossed a closed bridge. It would have been a 2 hour detour.

I cooked dinner with BD. I arrived at camp around 2:50 and set up my tent. We went shopping at about 3:15. We had decided on hamburgers, hotdogs and a salad. I convinced him we should get baked beans too. We got way too much good. I ate 2 hamburgers and a hot dig. We had pies for desert.

Tomorrow is a rest day. There is a chance to go to New Orleans but I will skip that. I really need the rest.

Today's ride: 80 miles (129 km)
Total: 675 miles (1,086 km)
