Traffic and hills!: Honfleur, at last
We have had intermittent Wi-Fi, plus the fact that we have a lazy day off in Honfleur, I am a couple of days behind on the blog.
We got a decent start this morning from Merville-Franceville and took a short cycle around the city and the beaches before heading off along a decent cycle path towards Honfleur. The path soon ended and we were on D514and D513, for most of the day. There was a fair bit of traffic, but it was ok. The drivers are fairly courteous, but some of them cut pretty close. Added to this, we climbed over 1900 ft today. I am not proud to admit it, but, I had to push my bike up one of the hills. I didn't get geared down soon enough, and decided, WTH...."there is not a hill that I cannot walk." Ron, my hero, road up all of them.
We road through some of the most beautiful small towns today, as well. Cabourg, Houlgate,Villers, Deauville, and Trouville, were all pretty special. We especially enjoyed Deauville. We stopped there and cycled the boardwalk, which our friend Christian recommended. Thanks, Christian! It is a ritzy place where movie stars come, and there are places along the boardwalk with many of the star's names on wooden dividers. We sat on the boardwalk and shared a baguette and cheese....heaven. Afterwards, we cycled around the town for awhile, enjoying the sights, then started our many accents. I am sure Ron got us lost a few times, jut to add on miles!!
In the afternoon, we finally arrived in Honfeur, and it is every bit as beautiful, as people have told us. The only negative, is it is very touristy, and busy. Ron found us a hotel for the night, and all is good.
