We have spent the last three days sightseeing in and around Sintra, Portugal. No airports, no bikes, no bike boxes!
The historic centre of Sintra is very interesting and beautiful, with its narrow, cobblestone streets, Moorish castle, and Pena palace.
Yesterday we took a nail biting bus ride on a very twisty, narrow road to a seaside town. I sure hope we don't have to cycle on any of those roads!
We have noticed that there are hardly and cyclists here, and we have not seen one female cyclist. I sure hope that is not an indication of the the cycling conditions!
This morning we went out for a very nice breakfast, and then scouted out a bike store to replace our cardboard boxes, for our retune flight home. Smaller ones this time! Since we return to Sintra for our last night of the bike tour, we were able to store the boxes there. On our walk back to our villa, we came across a small store selling port. Of course we had to sample, and purchase. Yum!
We have joined up with 22 of our friends here, and we will be riding together in Portugal.
Can't wait to get biking again!
