The Pre-Trip Planning
As always, I like an adventure before the adventure.
I waited until the very last minute to book a flight, and it seemed nothing good was turning up until a steal of a deal caught my attention: I could fly with the bike to Hong Kong for half the price of flying to Shenzhen. This was quite unheard of as it's almost always the other way around. And even better, it was for Cathay Pacific with free checked bags that the Montague would surely fit under with generous weight limits. Meanwhile, the next flight to Cambodia was out of Shenzhen anyway, so it would mean a couple days in Hong Kong first then crossing the border. Who could complain about that? Actually this would amount to a far better choice.
The only caveat would mean first flying out of Hangzhou, but this wouldn't be the first time attempting such shenanigans and getting the folding bike to that airport.
