My hopes for a hearty breakfast were dashed when the restaurant across the street failed to open at 7 as advertised. I’d missed the notice saying they were closed for the first half of June, leaving Circle K as my only breakfast choice.
Tailwinds all day, can’t complain about that. I didn’t take any pictures in Zuni, discouraged by signs to that effect, and to not explore the town without a Zuni escort. Wish I could have, though. I don’t know if it’s because it was Sunday afternoon or not, but everywhere people were gathered at large adobe ovens, loading or removing large loaves of break. The ovens appeared to be always built in a row of three, some clearly part of someone’s yard, others not obviously belonging to anyone. The “middle village” had what looked like community ovens, with a large crowd.
There’s a small bed and breakfast in Zuni and even though it looked like it was in business I couldn’t locate any humans, either physically or electronically. I bought a blue corn muffin and a piece of cherry pie from some people next to the gas station, topped off my water and found a place hidden in the trees about 8 miles out of town to bed down for the night.
Today's ride: 62 miles (100 km)
Total: 769 miles (1,238 km)
