Portsmouth
The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is fascinating - so many voyages that are central to western history have started or ended in this remarkable port. It's a obvious visit for anyone interested in maritime heritage. We began our day with a visit to the first steel warship, the Warrior, and then went back in time to see Henry VIII's flagship, the Mary Rose, and Nelson's ship, HMS Victory. The many small vessels (and their stories) presented in the massive Royal Navy Dockyard were also endlessly interesting, as was the Maritime Museum. We spent the entire day wandering this complex and didn't come close to seeing everything.
