Day 1 - Off we go
Donaueschingen to Beuron

Let the cycling begin! We headed off from Donaueschingen and after 63km we arrived at Beuron where we stopped for the night. We followed the Donauweg signs all of the way which proved to be more reliable than my attempt at mapping the route on Ride With GPS. We were on and off the river passing through very pastural farm land. Our first stop for coffee was in Tubbingen about 35 km into the trip. Up until this point the weather was cool but dry. After about another 10km the rain appeared and so did a dirt track so needless to say we were very dirty by the time we stopped. Ron and Carol faired much better because they had full fenders while Patti and I had none. It took some getting used to the extra weight on my bike but after a while you didn’t really notice except when we went up hill. The steering is definitely different with my handle bar bag but again it became normal after awhile. We bedded down in the only decent place in the town of Beuron which is known for its Benedictine monastery. Unfortunately the weather forecast is grim for tomorrow but we will ride on anyway.
