A VERY limited day of cycling, so I'll limit the discussion. Much of the day was either waiting or ferrying.
Our host had allowed us to stay in our room until noon so we lingered until late morning before loading up to go. All we had to do was roll down to the water and wait for our 1 pm ferry.
Yesterday we were told about another triathlon so we watched a few of the entrants complete the cycling portion before heading out on their run. We were able to watch this from the area where the Krilo ferry had docked en route from Split to Dubrovnik. I asked a few people and they assured me that the triathlon was fenced off from the dock area so the ferries could dock. As ferry time approached there were no people around so I asked more people who said the ferry was docking today on the other side of the old city. Not a long way from where we were but it was now fifteen minutes to departure time. We had to unfold the bikes to be able to quickly roll them around to the docked ferry and were onboard with some minutes to spare.
The bikes had been folded and bagged for the ferry but now they were full-sized again, so the ticket man asked if we had tickets for the bikes otherwise they had to be in something. Not a big job, I quickly folded them and slipped them back into their bags and everyone was happy. It was now a matter of getting into seats (lots of empty ones) for the ride.
It was a beautiful day so the views to Korčula island and Hvar island were incredible. The latter had some really high peaks so it started to worry me a bit in terms of how difficult the cycling would be. But when we approached Hvar town the hills were still high but not as jaggedy.
The ferry pulled in to the pretty harbour - limestone buildings all around and the imposing fort up on the top of the mountain. Only a few people got off of the ferry but dozens were getting on board, I suppose heading back to the mainland after the weekend on the island. Our place was only 283 m away but this was as the crow flies. It took some minutes and some climbing to get to our place - it was a bit tricky but we found it. We were shown to our room, we stashed the bikes, then headed out in search of a supermarket for breakfast and on-the-road snacks.
Being Sunday, most places were closed, but we ended up stumbling on a Studenac that was open. We had decided to eat out down by the water so we picked up our few things then ran them back to the apartment so we could explore without all of the weight of the food.
Heading back out we walked down to the water and walked along the water's edge and back to the harbour where we had arrived and then wandered into the old town a bit. It was surprisingly quiet - I had expected a hectic town centre but it was pleasantly calm.
Our hunger began to grow, so we headed back along the water to the Hvar Beer Brewing restaurant, rated a 4.9/5 on Google, where we ordered a couple of 'Nourishing Bowls'. They were an amazing blend of beans, greens, hummus and veggies. Really tasty. Plus, we sat on their terrace which is right at the water's edge. With the sun getting low in the sky, it could not have been much prettier.
After dinner it was time for a few APs at water's edge of the setting sun but then with it getting cool out, we returned to the apartment for a bit of Milka on the deck.
Today's ride: 5 km (3 miles) Total: 261 km (162 miles)
