Day 5 - La Rochelle to St-Martin-de-Ré

Today was a super-short day, so we lingered over breakfast in a nearby cafe to enjoy the view.
We left town on bike paths, as usual. Very impressive! To get to the Ile de Ré, you have to cross a big bridge. It was probably the biggest climb of the whole tour! We stopped for a snack before attacking it.
The crossing looks intimidating, but there's a nice bike path that's separated from traffic. It really wasn't bad.
Once on the island, you're in cycling paradise.
And before we knew it, we were at our destination! We found our hotel, which was really a kind of apartment hotel. It's called "Résidence Pierre et Vacances Premium Le Palais des Gouverneurs" and we don't recommend it. But it was home for 3 nights.
The room wasn't ready and the desk was closed for lunch, so we rode back to the harbor for a celebratory lunch.
We chilled for the afternoon and went back down to the harbor to walk around as evening fell.
Today's ride: 26 km (16 miles)
Total: 256 km (159 miles)
