Day 8. So that’s it, then.

…my ride is over…

6:00 and it’s time to get going with 74 miles ahead of me and the headwind blowing. I quickly packed my bags, put on my socks, left the room and put my room key in the motel’s key deposit box. Riding through the dark with the lights showing the way I roll through town and climb over the north causeway. I pass by fort park but can’t see anything as it’s dark.

Here the sun is rising silhouetting a dock one of the few not capsizing

Detouring off A1A and over this canal, the skies start getting lighter increasing my morale

Pass over the causeway to  Daytona Beach, but riding on the beach is quite out of reach. So cycling on the beach is nix for this ride in fact instead of Daytona Beach it should be called Daytona high tide.

My ride on Daytona Beach I’m forced to miss. I think I should speak to the mayor about this.

I stopped to get a big breakfast to fuel my big mile day not that I need an excuse to eat breakfast at Waffle House anyway. The food is good and the portions are large and it’s still inexpensive even with the egg surcharge. The tunes from the jukebox are going steady and what happens next? We’re all singing loudly along with Tom Petty.

I’m psyched to ingest my big breakfast

This route is closed. I’m being denied of my GPS boardwalk roller coaster ride.

This tree seems to be the homes of 100 or so little gnomes

I am off the barrier island and on the West shore of the Halifax river. The traffic is much quieter here and the scenery really delivers

My route carries me relentlessly fourth in the general heading of north. The wind today has been quite the block. It’s been relentless coming from my 11 o’clock.

Traveling the path through Flagler Beach the ocean’s over my right shoulder just out of reach

The last 10 miles I felt like a machine because I knew I was approaching Saint Augustine

The streets are scenic and oh so quaint maybe that’s why Augustine was a saint

567 miles over eight days, 2 Airbnb’s and 6 hotel stays. Not a tour that I think I’d repeat but I made my destination and this adventure is complete. A video to come so stay tuned to this site meanwhile, happy touring and to all a good night!
