Day 0. Where I get to my starting point

I depart my driveway as the sun is rising. It’s 6:30am so this time of year that’s basically unsurprising. A little over six hours to st Augustine - my GPS says my ETA is 1:13. I make it on time with one fill up for gas; pull into the parking garage and get my monthly parking pass. It was $20 to enter which is kind-of unreal but only $34.08 for a monthly pass which is quite the deal.

I walk to St George St there are shops selling wares, people walking singly, some in pairs. Some are upstairs sitting in chairs. Others stare at their phones, completely unawares.

St George St’s buildings are historically nice and shoppers find it a paradise

Paul MulveyTo Gregory GarceauLike you I found them wearing long pants was strange. But maybe they didn’t check the forecast or they were possibly deranged.

I made my way to Flagler college which used to be the Ponce De Leon hotel; it was where Henry Flagler’s guests used to dwell. Styled after a Spanish mission to get the full tour I would have to pay admission. So I walked through the courtyard and took some pics you see because that part of the building was completely free.

The building is amazing, it really does please; but the thing that stands out are the majestic palm trees

Next stop on my walk I’m happy to report was the Castillo San Marco, a historical fort. Constructed of a material the builders called “tabby” it’s held up 400 years, that’s not too shabby. It’s a mixture of lime, water, sand, and oyster shell. They blend it together and mix it quite well.

Castillo San Marco, the Spanish fort. Its mission was the town to support.

On my way back to the motel I was in no hurry so I stopped in a Thai café for some green curry. Not too hot, not too mild spice the consistency was good and the taste nice. Tomorrow’s forecast looks to be great with a low of 59 and high of 78.
